Balsam Range Bluegrass Concert - Sep 21, 2025 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM @ The Ritz Theatre

Golden Isles Arts and Humanities is excited to bring award-winning bluegrass band Balsam Range to the Ritz Theatre stage on Sunday, September 21, at 3 pm. Get ready for an exciting afternoon of music that honors the roots of bluegrass while sharing their own unique sound.

Formed in 2007 by mere happenstance, Balsam Range came together during an informal kitchen jam session in the rural depths of Western North Carolina. What started as friends gathering to pick a tune or learn a new song, ultimately led to gigs being booked. This trajectory quickly took the shape of a band on the run to its dreams.

Since its inception, Balsam Range has become one of the most decorated and award-winning acts in the wide world of bluegrass music, including International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) honors: “Entertainer of the Year” (2014, 2018), “Album of the Year” (2013, 2017), “Song of the Year” (2011, 2015) and “Vocal Group of the Year” (2014, 2015), “Male Vocalist of the Year” (2014, 2018) and “Bass Player of the Year” (2018).

Balsam Range is Dr. Marc Pruett (banjo); Alan Bibey (Mandolin, vocals) Tim Surrett (bass, dobro, baritone and lead vocals); and Caleb Smith (guitar, lead & baritone vocals). They thoughtfully and respectfully adopted the name of themajestic range of mountains that surround part of their home county of Haywood, NC where the Great Smoky Mountains meet the Blue Ridge, the Great Balsam Range.

Blending traditional bluegrass with elements of mountain music and their own unique style, Balsam Range creates a lively, infectious sound filled with tight harmonies and upbeat melodies. Don’t miss this captivating and authentic afternoon of mountain music with Balsam Range on Sunday, September 21, 2025 at 3 pm at the Historic Ritz Theatre!
