Cinema Gourmet - Stand By Me - Feb 12, 2026 6:30 PM - 10:00 PM @ The Ritz Theatre

Cinema Gourmet, Golden Isles Arts & Humanities’ popular series pairing delicious food with classic films, continues Thursday, February 12,, 2026, with the 1986 coming of age drama, Stand By Me. The film’s screening and discussion are paired with the culinary delights of Chef Judah Lynch and Indigo Coastal Shanty. The evening’s events begin with delicious food at 6:30 p.m. 

Based on the novella, The Body by Stephen King, and directed by Rob Reiner, Stand by Me takes place in the summer of 1959 in Castlerock, Oregon.  Four 12-year-old boys – Gordie, Chris, Teddy and Vern – are fast friends and after learning of the general location of the body of a local boy who has been missing for several days, they set off into the woods to see it. Along the way, they learn about themselves, the meaning of friendship and the need to stand up for what is right.  (Note the film is rated R because of the use of profanity and mature themes.) 

This month’s film was chosen to be a part of Coastal GA Reads Alice in Wonderland.  Though seemingly different, Alice and Stand by Me share many similar themes – the protagonists of both are driven by curiosity; their journeys have them questioning who they are and what their place in the world is; and both must confront some difficult and often absurd, realities about the real world.

Cinema Gourmet has two more screenings this season: the hilarious British comedy starring Alec Guiness, The Ladykillers on March 12; and the film that made us all afraid to go swimming, Jaws, directed by Steven Spielberg on April 9.
