Golden Isles CVB Welcome Center – 529 Beachview Drive

February exhibit: Textile art by Barbara Northrup on display has been extended through March.

Barbara Northrup was born in Vancouver, Canada. As a teen she developed an interest in photography and used the medium to focus on texture and pattern in the world around her. She moved to San Francisco in 1981 to study Interior and Textile Design and in 1994 she relocated to St. Simons Island where she opened a linen shop.  With the store she was able to re-engaged her love of textiles and photography but it wasn’t until 2015 that she was able to combine the two.

The advent of digital photography and digital printing made it possible for her to use her photographic images to create patterns that could be printed on textiles. In 2016, she started Inspire Active Wear – an eco-friendly line of leggings and sport tops made from recycled plastic water bottles that featured all original designs she created. In the last few years her focus has broadened to include wraps with beaded detailing, cotton sun hats, scarves and even high-top sneakers.

The CVB Welcome Center on St. Simons Island’s regular hours are Monday – Saturday 9:00am – 5:00pm; Sunday 12:00pm – 5:00pm
